Brill & Owen was founded in 1987 by Nicholas Brill, Maryla Brill and the late John Owen, whose memory lives on in the practice name. Over the years, Brill & Owen has built a reputation for designing high quality schemes of all types and sizes that combine creativity and meticulous attention to detail.
Nicholas Brill MSc(London), Dip Arch (Leeds), CMIM, RIBA
Nicholas Brill has extensive experience of retail and commercial development, particularly shopping centre design in locations including Reykjavic, Aberdeen and Greater London. He has worked at senior level for practices such as Carl Fisher and Bernard Engle and as an in-house architect for the John Lewis Partnership.
An active member of his profession, Nicholas Brill has served as Honorary Secretary of the Royal Institute of British Architects and as a council member for both the RIBA and the Architects’ Registration Council of the United Kingdom. He also acts as an external examiner for the Professional Practice examination at the University of Westminster’s School of Architecture. As chair of the New North London Synagogue, Nicholas commissioned the community’s new building, giving him an interesting insight into the architectural process from a client perspective.
Maryla Brill B Arch
Maryla Brill was born in Poland but brought up in Montevideo, Uruguay where she began her architectural studies. Maryla qualified as an architect at the respected Haifa Technion in Israel and moved to England to work with Carl Fisher & Partners, before joining Brill & Owen as a partner.
Alongside her considerable experience of both commercial and residential schemes, Maryla brings an understanding of the different cultures and working practices of the countries in which she has lived, studied and worked to her projects. She is fluent in Polish, Hebrew and Spanish and driven by the desire to design beautiful contemporary buildings that inspire her clients.
Stephen Brookhouse BA B Arch M Sc RIBA FCIArb
As a Chartered Architect with over 25 years’ senior level experience in architectural practice, Stephen Brookhouse brings a wealth of expertise to Brill & Owen and its clients. He has worked with a number of blue-chip companies such as Standard Chartered Bank, Chubb Insurance, Taylor Wimpey and Great Portland Estates on complex refurbishment and development projects in the UK and Belgium. A former Lord Holford Memorial Prize winner, Stephen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and CEDR Accredited Mediator.
During his long and distinguished career, Stephen Brookhouse has worked as a visiting lecturer, served as a RIBA examiner and authored several reference works.Today, he draws on his extensive experience of JCT contracts to advise on construction claims and disputes, as well as architectural design services and project management.
